An Artist’s Manifesto – Subtitled “Why”

An Artist’s Manifesto – Subtitled “Why?”

The tension or shock value of my art is something that I purpose to, not for some sadistic pleasure. It is a desire to rock the foundations that society has created as some false facade of security. The idea that all bricks must be perfectly aligned. That all roads on the map must go to a destination. That wrinkles must be covered with make up. That one must portray wholeness.

When I see art that purposes to be pretty or “pleasing” I think of facades. Whether real or imagined. I see that people are portraying something More >

Are We All Mad?

Recent conversations have prompted me to evaluate whether we are all mad? I started thinking, of what role model didn’t struggle with some form of madness, or bend, or addiction, or idiosyncrasy.

From Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland:

‘In that direction,’ the Cat said, waving his right paw round, ‘lives a Hatter; and in that direction,’ waving the other paw, ‘lives a March hare. Visit either you like; they’re both mad.’ ‘But I don’t want to go among mad people,’ Alice remarked. ‘Oh, you ca’n’t help that,’ said the Cat: ‘ we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.’ ‘How do you know More >

Masks

A new friend has allowed me to reprint a poetic works of his.

Mask

Please take off the mask,i want to see you! Chip away the mold society has placed upon you. I know underneath, there are tears that fall like rain. I know underneath, there are scars from all the pain. I know underneath, there’s a mind trying to break out. I know underneath, lyes fear anxiety and doubt. Speak to me with your voice, not a highly rated monologue. Look at me with your face, not a page from a catalog.

The Death of An American Icon – Anna Nicole Smith

Anna Nicole

I must admit I never thought I would be typing a blog entry on someone who I cared very little for.

Yesterday, February 8, 2007 Anna Nicole Smith died.

When I first heard the news, I was first struck with a feeling of shock and disbelief. I first saw the news as “Breaking News” on CNN.com soon after the news broke. It just didn’t seem possible that someone who in someway had become an American icon in her own way could be dead.

It could be argued that Smith possessed very little, if any, talent. Rising to American consciousness through nude layouts, More >

“Seasons”

The dictionary defines a season as “a time characterized by a particular circumstance or feature” or “a period of the year characterized by or associated with a particular activity or phenomenon”

As long as I have been alive, the climate has gone through changes. Changes in temperature, changes in length of daylight, changes in outdoor versus indoor activities, and changes even in the leaves on trees. Despite the offical dates of the start and ends of the season marked on the calendar, living in Wisconsin as I have, the outdoor climate doesn’t always follow these “Official dates”.

Walls of Isolation

Walls of Isolation

It seems appropriate to start this Blog with a discourse on principles that have been major parts of my life at various times in my life.

The idea of “Walls of Isolation”

When I was in High School, one of my favorite movies was “The Wall” by Pink Floyd. I could identify with the character of “Pink” who had faced instances of abandonment and rejection.

Growing up, due to various circumstances such as having a prominent scar from surgery on my face and the taunts that came from classmates, I began to isolate myself to avoid the pain that the barbs caused.
